What Does "All Men Are Created Equal Mean"?

For the Occupy movement it clearly means that all men should have equal wealth; in their case at someone elses expense. They believe someone else should pay for their care, to feed them and cloth them and send them to the finest schools and to attend to all their physical needs. They don’t believe the laws put in place to protect their well being should apply to them. They are opposed to anyone making profit, profits that pay the taxes that would be needed to support their demands. The Occupy movement believes it is their right to trample on the rights of others. In several places around the USA they have destroyed both public and private property and burned the flag of the nation that allows them to behave in this fashion.

We know with certainty that all are not born with the same eyes, the same nose, the same health condition. Some of us have deformities, some of us physical perfection. Some are white, some are black, or of the orient. Some will have wealth and some will not. Some inherit wealth and others create wealth. Some have a need to advance and others are content with their lot.

So what then does “Created Equal” mean? What defines it? Could it be certain rights? Such as the right to pursue happiness? Certainly we may all pursue that goal. What about life? In our Declaration of Independence all have a right to life; that makes abortion an abomination to that document. Our Declaration also gives us the right to Liberty. Liberty clearly means that we are promised Freedom so long as it does not interfere with the God given rights of others.

The “Declaration of Independence” was the promise and “The United States Constitution” was the Declaration fulfilled.

Our constitution is a fabulous document. There are those among us that want us to think that it is a living document that automatically changes with the times. What they mean by that is anyone’s guess but what that kind of reasoning would mean to me is that I cannot count on it being the same tomorrow as it was yesterday. They are wrong. It is a document written for the ages; it was written by brilliant men, the kind of men that cannot be found in all the societies of the twenty first century.

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”-----John Adams. Yes, it is morality and the faith of our founding fathers that gave us Freedom!

“To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people is a chimerical idea.”-----James Madison. Virtue is something that is almost impossible to find in America today, and in fact, society frowns on virtue.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”---Benjamin Franklin. Where is America today? Corrupt masters are taking over while we lose more and more of our freedom.

“The sum of all is, if we would most truly enjoy the gift of Heaven, let us become a virtuous people; then shall we both deserve and enjoy it. While, on the other hand, if we are universally vicious and debauched in our manners, though the form of our Constitution carries the face of the most exalted freedom, we shall in reality be the most abject slaves.”-----Samuel Adams. What are we becoming in America today but subjects of a government run by unconstitutional executive orders with no congressional advice and consent.

I have seen Americas greatness, and if our course is not altered, I fear that the greatness that was is past. History is repeating itself as it has many times before and mankind seems incapable of learning from it.
